Harvey Junior Combs was born in Wilkes County, North Carolina to Harvey Roscoe Combs and Genie Johnson Combs on December 17, 1925. As WWII started, Junior was too young to serve, but joined the Army later and served in Korea. He served for a total of 11 years. For 4 years and 7 months of that time he was overseas, first in Guam, then serving in the Korean War.
Junior was awarded the Army Occupational Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and a Good Conduct Medal.
Junior married Vivian Johnson in 1959 and they had two children. He worked at Carolina Mirror Company and Holly Farms Industries before retiring. He was a solid citizen of the community and a friend to all. He passed away September 3, 2010 and is buried at Lewis Baptist Church in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina, in the area he grew up and lived in most of his life.
