Foyst Blackburn served as an E5 (Sergeant) Fire Direction Controller in the 1st Infantry Division for the 81mm mortar platoon during the Vietnam War (1966–67). His bravery and dedication in combat earned him numerous commendations, including the Purple Heart, Bronze Star Medal, and Army Commendation Medal with"V" Device for heroism. He was also awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. Foyst is a life member or the DAV and Past Commander of VFW Post 1142 (2017-21)
