SPENCER RAY DOBBINS
Spencer was born to Thaddie Reece and Lela Viola Eller Dobbins on July 24, 1944, in Moravian Falls, North Carolina.
On June 29, 1965, he joined the United States Army. Having worked as an orderly at Wilkes General Hospital, Spencer entered the army as a private and was assigned as a Medical Specialist. He underwent Basic Training at Fort Gordon, Georgia, and completed Advanced Individual Training at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, on November 19, 1965.
He served as a medical specialist with the rank of Specialist 4 in the 2nd Medical Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division, Korea-3rd Army for one year and one month. His awards include the United States National Defense Service Medal, Marksman Rifle, and Good Conduct Medal. Spencer was honorably discharged on June 28, 1967.
A 1962 graduate of Lincoln Heights High School, he pursued further education at Forsyth Technical College, Wilkes Community College, and Central Carolina Technical Institute. Spencer retired as an installer/repairman after a 36-year career with Century Link Telephone Company.
A devout member of Poplar Spring Missionary Baptist Church, Spencer married Brenda Adams on April 13, 1974. Their marriage was blessed with a son, Bryan Reece (Brittany), two grandsons, Reece and Rye, and a granddaughter, Rivers. Spencer passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2017.
