Tim Wilkie Sr is an Indigenous Educator and has been a part of learning/teaching from a young age. He has taught classes for grades 6-12, and at both the college and university level. After leaving the military, he has worked in biological sciences doing research, customer service for an online retailer, and worked teaching science classes and basic computer skills, and eventually became the Vice President and Academic Dean, for Sisseton Wahpeton College. His small business, WilkieELS.com, is a consulting education service that offers training in several areas.
Tim was born and spent most of his youth on the Turtle Mountain Indian Reservation, in a county that abuts Canada in North Dakota. He returned several years later to complete high school and where he met his spouse. He worked at the local public radio station, KEYA, for several years before joining the military in the communications field. He went to the University of North Dakota, where he received a BS in Biology, and a BA in (American) Indian Studies, as well as doing 5 years of biomedical research.
Tim is an avid reader and has made it a habit to meet and be familiar with the local libraries where he has lived and worked. He is an active volunteer in the community, and has been active in some of the local DAV chapters since his end of service. Currently, Tim volunteers on the local Downtown North Wilkesboro Partnership board-which is currently recruiting for spots on their board and committees.
