Fredrick Barber - Story
Fredrick Barber served in the US Army / NC Army National Guard, beginning in September 1969 and ending in September 1999. He achieved the rank of Sgt./E5. He was a member of Company A 793rd Military Police Battalion and Company A 505th Engineer Battalion.
Fredrick was drafted in 1969, attended basic at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and advanced training at Fort Eustis, VA. He spent approximately eighteen months in Germany working as a border patrol officer of the military police. During his training he qualified with 45 cal. hand-gun, M-14 Rifle, M-16 Rifle and M-60 Machine Gun.
Following service abroad, Fredrick served in the North Carolina National Guard as a member of North Wilkesboro's unit and was deployed out of country again four times. He traveled to Honduras, Ecuador; Marital Islands and finished up in Camp Picket, VA. He worked as a Military Police Officer, Electrician, and handled general construction equipment.
On September 13, 1997, he received a letter of appreciation from Brigadier General James W. Emerson for a job done in Durham, North Carolina and several other ribbons and medals.
There were many award that Fredrick earned over the course of his service years, and he retired with an honorable discharge.
