MESH (Mobile Expanded School Health)- WCHD info

A mobile medical unit that comes to the high schools Monday through Friday. MESH makes it convenient to provide care to the students while at school, therefore decreasing the amount of time that students are out of the classroom. MESH is staffed by a Family Nurse Practitioner and a Nurse every day. MESH also offers mental health services to students. MESH coordinates with school nurses to be at the schools on opposite days. MESH provides minor illness/injury assessment and treatment, sports physicals, and certain immunizations and laboratory tests. There are over-the -counter medications on the MESH unit for symptom relief, and prescriptions can be written. All services on MESH are free to students except sports physicals, which cost $15. MESH does bill Medicaid, Health Choice, and some insurances. MESH is for students regardless of insurance status.

Designed to help those who cannot afford their medication based on the client's ability to pay. BROC, D.S.S. can issue cards to those who qualify. Enables uninsured clients to purchase maintenance medication as at reduced cost that is based on their income. Provides temporary prescription assistance during waiting periods.

Healthcare Connection - Wilkes Health

This service is for people who are uninsured and need assistance. HealthCare Connection is an integrated system working with private and public physicians, Wilkes Regional Medical Center, and the Wilkes County Health Department to provide access care to low-income, uninsured citizens of Wilkes County. The program provides preventive, primary and specialty care, and low-cost pharmaceuticals. HealthCare Connection is not a health insurance plan, it is however a way to help our uninsured community members stabilize their health. North Carolina Health Choice Insurance

The NCHC Health Insurance program for Children is a comprehensive health coverage program for low-income children. The goal of the NCH Program is to reduce the number of uninsured children in the State. If you family makes too much money to qualify for Medicaid, but too little to afford private or employer-sponsored health insurance, your child (ren) may qualify for NCHC. (Family Resources, abuse/Neglect Services, Counseling Services, COVID-19 Resources for Families, Crisis Intervention/Assistance Services, Housing Services, Medical and Dental Services.) A DSS caseworker will help determine eligibility for Medicaid or NC Health Choice. Eligibility, which depends on age, health needs, income and resources.
