A resident of Alexander County, North Carolina, Bert immigrated to the U.S. in the early 1950s from war- torn Europe. He grew up in High Point, N.C. where he completed high school and then went on to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from which he received several degrees, the most recent in Pharmacy.
His lifelong interest in literature and languages resulted in the study of German and Latin as well the study of French in Switzerland. He has either published or presented papers on Sherwood Anderson, Bertolt Brecht and the Swiss dramatist Friedrich Duerrenmatt. In pursuit of his love of literature he also received a grant from the Nab'onal Endowment for the Humanities to do research on Walt Whitman at Duke University.
After turning to the wrib'ng of fictton he entered several contests and received a number of honors including honorable mentions. He is currently working on an international thriller dealing with Russian and American nuclear weapons.
He is fascinated by the lives of past writers - how they wrote, when they wrote, who they came into contact with and what motivated them, where they lived, etc.
Bert believes that in writing one stumbles across certain truths which help the writer grow. If others adopt these truths all the better, but the primary purpose is to gain an occasional epiphany for one's own benefit as one progresses on the journey.
