THE HARBINGER
So still, so quiet in the blazing sun.
Air hangs like a dream
Wilted impatiens curl in the heat
A butterfly floats by
But high up in the poplar tree
A single leaf waves frantically
See me, see me! Rain is coming!
DOG DAYS
Definition:
A period in August so hot and humid that dogs go crazy barking and howling
What causes a dog to go mad in August days?
Poor dog – sad dog – chained to his spot in the yard
Oppressive heat and humidity
Noisy mosquitos nesting near the ears
The grumbling bee- the sassy cat meandering by-
No fear of retribution
The ball lies un-fetched
No breeze or shade for solace.
The far distant water dish-
The long hours until supper
No human comfort in sight
So poor dog sighs noisily
Then slumps his head on his paws
SEXY TOMATO
Tomato with skin as tight as a fat lady’s leotard
Then splitting and spewing juices
Ripe and full as a lover’s lips
Red, yellow, purple, green, or pink colored flesh exposed
Could be fried, stewed, baked, boiled
But better warm and naked spread on a sandwich
With dollops of mayonnaise
Such a delight to the senses!
Ripe, full, exorbitant
Rich, luscious, primeval!
Slightly indecent is this tomato.
