  • Bright Star Theater * The Little Mermaid * Based on Hans Christian Anderson's "Little Mermaid." The story follows a little mermaid who desperately wants to become human and follows a prince in hopes of winning  his heart. The surprising story of love and loss tells the difficulty of being yourself in unfamiliar waters and is quite different from the popular movie version.

Read 100 minutes a Week

Pick up a paper copy of your summer reading log or

Scan the QR code to Sign Up for ReadSquared

* Read or listen to any books that interest you.

* Mark off a number each time you've made progress toward your goal.

* For 100 minutes of reading you complete, you'll win a prize. Prizes are available while supplies last.

* When you have finished, you'll be entered into a raffle for the chance to win a grand prize. So turn in your reading log.

* The first day to pick up prizes is Saturday, June 11th. The summer reading program ends July 30th.

We are thrilled to announce our partnership with Readsquared. Starting June 6th, the Watauga County Public Library and the Western Watauga Branch Library will give patrons access to a Virtual Summer Learning sign up. Sign up for Readsquared at http://wataugacountylibrary.readsquared.com/

All programs are free of charge.

Children and teens who participate in summer library programs benefit from engaging activities and opportunities which promote literacy development and can help to counter summer slide. Summer library programs for all ages enhance lifelong learning and provide meaningful, enjoyable experiences available to everyone in the community.
