Watauga Library Youth Services: Ashe

Fleetwod P.O.

This Little Free Library (Twig) is located at the Fleetwood Post Office and is made out old bleacher boards taken from the former Beaver Creek High School.  Students who attended BCHS lived in the Fleetwood area.  Special thanks to Ashe County Home Builders Association for building and installing this Twig and to Stephen Shoemaker & Jessica Weaver for the art.

Todd Mercantile

This Twig, honors the memory of Jack Rielly and is located at Todd Mercantile / Bakery.  The store is operated by Helen Barnes-Rielly and hosts monthly Community Contra Dances.  Thanks to Ashe Home Builders, Mickey Pruitt and Joel Robinson for building and installing the Todd Twig!

Sheets Grocery

This Twig is located next to Sheets Grocery at the intersection of Hwy 16 & 88.  Frank and Mark Sheets, father/son, own and operate the market.  This Twig is made from gymnasium bleachers taken from the old Beaver Creek High School, and was installed here since Mark is a BCHS alumni.  There is a painting of a beaver reading a book on this twig in honor of the school's mascot.  Thank you to Stephen Shoemaker & Jessica Weaver for the art and to Joel Robinson & Mickey Pruitt of the Ashe Home Builders Association for their expertise in crafting and installing this Twig.

State Line Grocery

Ashe County Twig Locations

Downtown Lansing

This Twig is located next to the fire station (park-side) in downtown Lansing.  Mickey Pruitt and Joel Robinson of Ashe County Home Builders designed and built the Twig.  When shopping Lansing Foods, across the street, stop in and pick up a good book!

Mabe's Grocery

This Twig is located on Hwy 18 in the Laurel Springs area.  It was built and initially stocked by the Modern Woodman Youth Service Club of Ashe County.  E.J. and Shirley Mabe operate this family-owned store and welcome all to visit the Twig for selecting a good book to read.

Family Central Twig

The Family Central Twig was "grafted" into Ashe Library's Twig program and is located outside the Ashe County Partnership for Children offices.  It is kept supplied by the library when inventory is low and stocked monthly with library calendars.  This Twig is especially targeted to house children's books.
