Ashe County Public Library Online

We are happy to announce that Appalachian Regional Library, with public libraries in Ashe, Watauga, and Wilkes Counties, will be open to the public beginning on Monday, June 15. Most services will be available, but hours of operation and maximum occupancy of the building will be limited to ensure we are able to follow the recommendations of North Carolina Executive Order 141, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, and AppHealthCare.

“We are thrilled that we can return to providing traditional library services to the community, but we also want to be sure we are doing all we can to keep our patrons and our staff safe,” says Suzanne Moore, Ashe County Librarian.

Ashe County Public Library will be open Monday through Thursday, 10 am to 6 pm and Friday and Saturday, 10 am to 4 pm. Patrons may visit the library once a day for a maximum of one hour

While in the library, you may browse for materials, use a computer (we will have nine computers available for adults and two for children), access our free wifi, and browse the Friends of the Library bookstore. Some items will not be available for checkout, such as nontraditional materials and ABC backpacks, and some areas will not be open to the public, such as our Heritage Room and our meeting rooms. In addition, no toys, games, coloring sheets, or other in-library activities will be available. The seed library is open, but selections will be made from a list, and a librarian will retrieve the seeds for you. No in-library events will be offered.

We will continue to offer curbside pickup Monday through Friday from 10 am to 4 pm. When you arrive at the library for curbside pickup, please park in one of the designated curbside spaces and call 336.846.2041 Option 2, and we will bring your items to your vehicle. For more information about curbside pickup, visit

We request that everyone who visits the library abide by the 3 Ws:

  • Wear a face covering

  • Wash your hands often

  • Wait 6 feet away from other people

You will notice some changes in the library:

  • Library staff will wear face coverings to protect our patrons. We ask that you do the same for us.

  • The number of people allowed in the building will be reduced and monitored.

  • The first hour of service will be reserved for patrons at high risk of severe COVID-19 illness.

  • Patrons will check in with a greeter immediately upon entering the building.

  • Library patrons will be encouraged to “Grab and Go” and not to linger.

  • The only seating available will be reserved for patrons who are using computers or wifi.

  • Social distancing markers will be in place to help library users maintain a safe distance from others.

  • No in-person programs or meetings will be held in the library for the foreseeable future.

Please visit us online at and as well as on Facebook and Instagram for more information. If you have questions or concerns about the library’s reopening, please direct those to Ashe County Librarian Suzanne Moore at or 336.846.2041 x101.
